ATOPIA kunstlab, a new art space in Oslo. It will be a place for production and study of installation works that explore motion, both in terms of moving image and moving objects. And it is an attempt to identify and break away from the conventions and traditions of commercial galleries. It explores alternative methods to grasp and unleash the hidden potentials of the non-commercial art practice.
ATOPIA kunstlab will be a study room for creation and analysis of motion, an open place for meetings and discussions with artists as well as a laboratory for art in public space.
Per Hess & Nina Bang working as a duo are the first collaborators in this project. Together they are producing the installation work – “Sudden Shower” with neon light sculptures (PH) and a large drawing mounted on the window (NB). “Sudden Shower” creates its sense of motion through the interactions between light and drawing. The exhibition takes place in mid wintertime and it points on that rain has fallen at Svalbard this winter for the first time in modern history.
